Welcome
to PACK 512, Lighthouse District, SFC/BSA
About Pack 512
Pack 512 has been a chartered member of Lighthouse District, South Florida Council, Boy Scouts of America since 1972.
Serving the youth of Pompano Beach and Northeast Fort Lauderdale, our program provides a full spectrum of character-building opportunities for Cub Scouts aged 6 through 10.
Our chartered organization is the Pompano Elk's Lodge #1898.
Pack 512 is very involved in the communities of the Pompano/Northeast Fort Lauderdale area. We encourage community service by participating in Adopt-A-Street,
Pompano's Yuletide Parade, placement of flags on Veteran's graves, and regular service projects at local parks and camping areas. Our boys have picked about 400 pounds
of air potatoes during our last few campouts!
Our Cubmaster is Mr. Terry Pierce who has served in this position since 1996. Both of his sons were involved in Scouting but have since aged-out of the program.
Mr. Pierce, a Woodbadger of the Antelope variety, also serves as District Training Chair and is active in both District and Council events. He has also been an honored
recipient of the Silver Beaver (a national award), Cubmaster of the Year, and the District Award of Merit among others.
About Boy Scouts of America
In 1909, American businessman W. D. Boyce became lost in a dense London fog. As he was trying to find his way, he was approached by a boy carrying
a lantern, who offered to take Boyce to the address he was looking for. When they arrived at the destination, Boyce offered the boy a tip. The boy
refused, saying, "No, sir, I am a Scout. Scouts do not accept tips for courtesies or Good Turns."
Boyce was so impressed with the lad and the Scouting concept he brought the idea back to the United States. On February 8, 1910, Boyce filed
incorporation papers for the Boy Scouts of America in the District of Columbia.
In 1930, Cub Scouting was formally launched, with 5,102 boys registered at the end of that first year. By 1933 the time had come to promote
Cub Scouting throughout the country as a part of Scouting.
